Flights Resume at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Significant Air Traffic Control Outage
Flight operations have recommenced at Scotland's primary international airport after a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.
All aircraft movements were stopped after an IT issue that was reported at approximately 08:30.
Some passengers were left waiting in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.
Operations Restart with Continued Disruption
The airport confirmed at 10:40 that services were back online, and thanked passengers for their "patience and understanding".
That said, considerable delays are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights experiencing delays.
A spokesperson had previously estimated that 27 departures and 11 arrivals could be impacted.
"Travelers are urged to get in touch with their carrier for the current status on their specific flights," officials reiterated.
Cause of the Chaos
The problem was traced to the widespread suspension to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.
Flyers should still plan to check the status of their flight before heading to the hub as residual delays are managed.
