In “It’s a Deal”, a look back reveals that fan-favorite character Alastor, the Radio Demon was a mass murderer in his mortal days. Being aware he was destined for Hell, he made contact with the realm beyond in advance to secure a powerful role there. Rosie, who leads Hell’s cannibal community, vowed Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his soul.

This raises an important query: In what way is Rosie powerful enough to elevate Alastor above all other Sinner Demons?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a much bigger story that encompasses so much, leading into season 3,” the creator states. “Clearly that is a perfect question: How is she that powerful? The solution might be many things, but the revelation is in season three. I am thrilled for people to see it.”

It is uncertain the duration viewers will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have approved seasons 3 and 4, but the showrunner frequently notes that animation is a time-consuming endeavor, and later seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she says withholding on specific information is a crucial aspect of maintaining the second season's focus in the right places.

“The challenge of any kind of deal with demons, or narratives that have mysteries, is providing people sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then unveiling that gradually, and allowing that be gratifying,” she says. “So I am quite eager.”

Questions Answered in Season 3

The showrunner assures that season 3 will tackle the questions fans have been posing, such as why Rosie ordered Alastor to vanish for seven years, which diminished his influence in the infernal realm.

“The entire seven-year span, and the deals these humans are doing, and everything — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she reveals.

Meanwhile, the origin story episode offers another glimpse into how the main characters of Demonic Sinners looked like as humans, the second after seeing another character's Victorian-era human form in the second episode. She says that a lot of thought went into these character designs.

“The human versions of these personas carry great significance,” she says. “They vary from looking quite distinct from their infernal version to seeming almost identical. With the first character, the first one we see, there was a little bit of a debate within the team between choosing a design that represents the character, versus selecting an option that's historically correct. We opted for creating something that just seemed like it was him.”

She says the primary controversy over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘Nobody really had long hair like that in Victorian-era London.’ But simultaneously, we think the silhouette is so important, and we also just thought he looked good. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of provided the rationale that he lived in seclusion, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we design the human versions of these characters […] it's such a fun thing to investigate and figure out. I'm excited for people to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
