Marnus Labuschagne Dropped from Australian One-Day International Lineup to Face India

The Australian selectors have left out Labuschagne from Australia's three-game ODI series against India, with in-form Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a unexpected inclusion.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

The right-hander was left out from the one-day international squad following being dismissed for one in each of his two innings during the top-end series against South Africa in August. Labuschagne has a best innings of 47 in his most recent ten ODI innings.

Labuschagne has featured in 68 ODIs and amassed 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64 runs per dismissal, but will now work towards a Test team comeback ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Team Updates

Recent performances suggest of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the domestic first-class competition this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his first white-ball appearance in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

He has played 14 Tests with the last coming in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a red-ball recall as Australia seek a fix to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Additions and Fitness Updates

Left-arm quick Mitchell Starc makes a comeback for the ODI series against India after having time off since performing well for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the build-up to Australia’s last 50-over series against South Africa.

Skipper Pat Cummins remains on the sidelines as he aims to recover from a spinal issue in time to lead Australia in the opening Test of the Ashes in November.

Squad Selection Strategy and Fixtures

Australia have selected a squad for only the first two T20s against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will be absent for the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury suffered in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will skipper both the ODI and T20 sides after smashing a century in the final game against New Zealand to clinch a series clean sweep last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The bulk of the T20 squad will stay as a group as it’s an important period in the build towards the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare specific players for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India starts on 19 October in Perth, before the opponents play five T20s from 29 October.
